As the summer break begins for many of our partners, the MODI consortium gathered for its 6th bi-annual meeting on June 24–26, 2025, hosted by TNO in Helmond, the Netherlands. This gathering marked a key moment to align on technical progress, use case outcomes, and outreach strategy as we prepare for the final stretch of the project.
⚓️ Port Visit Kickoff: Rotterdam’s APM Terminal
The meeting began with an inspiring field trip to the APM Terminal at the Port of Rotterdam, one of the world’s most advanced port facilities. MODI partners explored cutting-edge logistics automation, providing tangible context for the project’s work in CCAM-enabled freight transport.
🎯 Setting the Focus: From Vehicle Concepts to Business Impact
At the heart of this bi-annual meeting was the ambition to connect technical vehicle concepts to sustainable business models and real-world logistics operations. Partners explored how three key vehicle types can serve diverse logistics needs across European contexts.
🛠️ Day 1: Vehicle Adaptations & Use Case Results
The day kicked off with a warm welcome from Sven Jansen (TNO), followed by a technical session on Vehicle Adaptations (WP3) led by AstaZero – RISE. This discussion explored how different vehicle types are being adapted to operational and environmental requirements.
🔬 In the afternoon, TNO guided partners through a live demonstration, showing tangible progress in automation, system integration, and deployment readiness.
📊 The day concluded with a deep dive into Use Case Testing Results (WP5), led by Volvo Group. Partners reviewed updates from the four national use cases—Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, and Norway—with a focus on early findings, quantitative data, co-creation experiences, and stakeholder input.
📣 Day 2: Strategy, Dissemination & Coordination
Day 2 began with a pivotal session led by IN-MOVE focused on Work Package 6 aimed at aligning demonstration activities and early results with MODI’s communication, dissemination, and exploitation strategy, while shaping the project’s long-term legacy.
🗂️ The meeting concluded with an update on project coordination (WP7) by ITS Norway, who shared important milestones and encouraged efficient collaboration through the final project phase.
🌟 Wrapping Up: Vision, Momentum & What’s Next
The Helmond meeting marked an important checkpoint for MODI—bridging technical progress with strategic planning. As partners head into the summer break, the focus now turns to maintaining momentum across testing, communication, and legacy-building efforts.
