Digital Infrastructure for Future Autonomous Driving Society: EU-Japan Alliances for CCAM.

On 11 February, a workshop co-organised by Dynamic Map Platform (DMP) and the MODI consortium took place in Brussels, bringing together experts and stakeholders from across the Connected, Cooperative & Automated Mobility (CCAM) community. The event was held under the framework of international cooperation in Logistics and Transportation, with a strong focus on initiatives in Japan and the importance of forging closer ties between top-tier countries in CCAM.

Key Highlights

Spotlight on Japan’s Advances in Digital Infrastructure
Participants gained valuable insights into Japan’s progress in autonomous trucking lanes and high-definition mapping solutions. Representatives from the Japanese government funding agency, NEDO, shared their experiences in driving large-scale implementation—sparking discussions on how Europe and Japan can synchronize efforts to address shared challenges such as driver shortages and sustainability targets.

Integrating the Entire CCAM Ecosystem
Attendees emphasized the importance of coordinating all elements of the CCAM ecosystem—from vehicle providers to infrastructure owners and managers, regulators, telecom providers, and other key stakeholders across the value chain—to drive systemic innovation and ensure the seamless integration of both physical and digital infrastructure.

International cooperation Toward Common Goals
Attendees acknowledged the necessity of uniting top-tier CCAM countries—like Japan and those in Europe—to advance digitalisation, sustainability, and cost-efficiency in transport systems. Discussions underlined that coordinated strategies and open knowledge exchange pave the way for safer, more efficient automated vehicles and logistics worldwide.

Next Steps
The workshop concluded with a call for continued international cooperation and planned follow-up sessions with focus on the planned large-scale CCAM demonstrations, aimed at turning the shared vision into actionable roadmaps. The collaboration between DMP and MODI, particularly through MODI’s Stakeholder Board Group, will remain pivotal in bridging global expertise and fostering innovation.

This successful event reinforced the MODI consortium’s commitment to expanding global partnerships and leveraging world-class CCAM developments. Stay tuned for further news on upcoming activities and collaborative opportunities with international leaders in autonomous mobility!
